This calculator is for estimating the manhours involved and quantities of paint required for the protective coating of steel piping associated with a construction project, after the piping has been suitably prepared. Preparation must have included removal of loose and peeling paint, rust, repair of small holes and dents, use of mineral spirits to remove grease.Where the piping has already been primed, perhaps by the supplier, the above attention will still be necessary, plus repairs to the prime coat if damaged, but if dealing with bare metal surfaces the application of a single coat of metal primer together with one or two topcoats must be covered by this estimating exercise.
